Netflix Big Mouth Makes Us Go Woahhh
You know me. I freaking love music regardless of genres. As long as a song has an aesthetic or fierceful, rhythmic tune with a good lyric and a decent voice performance like "Elastic Heart"-Sia for example, I'm good to go. However, no one in the whole world can talk me into liking "Gucci Gang" by Lil Pump (urgh... music these days...) So, as you can see, I have some major pet peeves when it comes to my personal interest, especially movies. I have always been hating movies that display overly-sexual images with a great passion. But "Big Mouth" was an exception, to my surprise.
For those who don't know, Netflix is now the most popular paid streamlining service on the Internet, despite a limited amount of movies available. It is the Netflix originals that make the miracle. Apparently, aside from some cheesy and downright terrible teen movies like "The Kissing Booth", "Sierra Burgess is a big loser" or "The Baby Sitter", we have "Stranger Things", "13 reasons why", "House of cards" and plenty of other exclusive content that earn the company worldwide recognition and contribute to the surge in subcribers over the last few years. All you need to remember is to avoid the mediocre ones and find the best things to watch lest you waste time.
When someone mentions Netflix, I yell "Stranger Things" unhesitatingly. Stranger Things surely has all the good deeds, yet the chief reason why I'm writing about "Big Mouth" instead is because I'd like to introduce you to a more underrated movie series. "Big Mouth" stars a group of 13 year-old kids going through puberty. What makes the series special is how it depicts that adventure in such a comedic style, yet still manages to capture serious messages about the deep-seated struggle they must face.
It's a bit embarassing for me to admit watching BM in public let alone sharing and recommending because of its raunchy jokes, crude language and utterly uncomfortable chunderous sexual moments (a boy has intercourse with his furniture, a bunch of male genitalia play basketball in the first episode, and lots of masturbation... ewwwwww... thank god it's animated) Nevertheless, I decided to take the highway and expose my hidden "guilty pleasure", for it'd be a great shame for anyone at all to miss out on this fantastic adult animated sitcom. You'll find yourself laughing at what a silly goose and a cringy little fella you were during that phase through the painfully accurate character representation.
The show also opens up more room for puberty, sex, and the human body, which are topics Vietnamese families too shy to bring up in conversation, or maybe it's just my parents. I'm telling you, never have I ever felt this much educated about the particular matter. We don't have sex-ed in public schools either, do we? I still recall vividly that one time when I was in secondary school, I saw my first period ever. Oh god... it was horrfic, indeed. I legitimately thought I was going to die from blood loss, which is obviously not the case now that I have become fully awared of my body and how it works. Thus, putting aside the recreational purposes, BM gives informative answer to serious questions like contraception thru presonifications of The Pill, Condoms, The Implant, The IUD, The Pull-Out Method, and The Diaphragm and also allows us to reminisce on wild teenage memories where we experience obnoxious, yet wondrous different stages of growth.
If you have not watched Big Mouth yet, I highly recommend giving it a go. I assure you will enjoy it more than you think you will. Plus they have only released 2 seasons, there's still a chance to keep it up before season 3 coming in 2019.
